Time

In Greek mythology, the god Chronos was regarded as the embodiment of time. Chronos in Greek means precisely "time".

From chaos to order and structure

Chronos emerged from the original chaos and created order and structure. He was depicted as a wise man with a long gray beard.

Words derived from "Chronos" - such as diachronic, isochronous, chronicle and chronological - have meanings associated with "time" and "sequence".

Chronos - The reference point of the universe

The Greeks called the planet Saturn, Khronos. Saturn was believed to be the planet furthest from the earth, and was regarded as the seventh of the seven celestial objects.

Since Saturn had the longest observable orbital period in the sky, Saturn was believed to be the clock of the universe, or "Father's Time".

Chronometer

The seafarers 'chronometers were crucial to the vessels' ability to navigate. The chronometer gave the answer to:

Where are we?

Where are we going?
